Her Most Treasured Possession ...

An attempted kidnapping, an unquiet soul, and an unexpected gift conspire to throw shopkeeper Lydia Chernov's well-ordered life into turmoil. Though Lord Chase arrives in time to stop the kidnapper, he adds to the upheaval by igniting Lydia’s emotions and making her question all she holds dear. But while passion can cause havoc, when Lydia and Chase come together to solve the mystery of her most treasured possession, they discover that a magic coin – even in the wrong hands – can transform determination to desire, and bedlam to bliss.

The first time I told Lydia's story it was as a proposal for a book-length novel, the last in the Pennistan series I write for Bantam. Though my editor and I decided it wasn't quite the right plot for Lord Jess Pennistan, that left Lydia – a character I'd come to care about – without resolution, without love. So, with Bantam's permission, I share the story of Lord Chase and Lydia Chernov in "Her Greatest Treasure." It is adapted from the teaser chapter at the end of Courtesan's Kiss.

"The Other Side of the Coin"
Novella from the THE OTHER SIDE Anthology

November 30, 2010

Jove

Anthology with novellas by JD Robb, Mary Blayney, Patricia Gaffney, Ruth Ryan Langan, and Mary Kay McComas.

Great Review:
"a light-hearted look at what can happen with ill thought out wishes . . . This is a fun, farcical . . . tale. Harry and Bettina are kind, loving people who have forgotten how to appreciate or even speak to each other. Seeing things from the opposite end helps put their love back on track. A cheerful read and my favorite of the anthology." — Maggie Boyd, likesbooks.com

"The Other Side of the Coin" Novella

In the spring of 1810 as the London Season is at its height. Bettina, the Countess of Fellsborough fears her husband is having an affair. Her husband, Harry, insists not. As they argue, she wishes that Harry could know what her life is like and he wishes his wife "could learn to trust him." Their wishes are granted and each must live in the other's body. It makes for confusion and comedy as understanding grows from heartache.

The fourth novel in the Pennistan series ...

In Courtesan's Kiss an independent woman is determined to make her way in the world—even if it’s a scandalous one. But first she must escape a nobleman with plans of his own.

After Mia Castellano’s fiancé breaks their engagement, the ton shuns her. Hardly scandalized, Mia sees her chance to finally free herself from society’s restraints — by becoming a courtesan. After all, a courtesan is in full control of her destiny: she manages her money, has her own house, and can choose her lovers. There’s only one obstacle standing in her way — Lord David Pennistan.

Lord Pennistan has been assigned the challenging task of seeing Mia safely to her new home in Derbyshire where her guardian awaits. The woman attracts nothing but trouble from the outset of their journey. Although with every adventure they share, David’s desire for Mia grows. And when they’re caught in a compromising situation, David insists she marry him. But there’s only one thing Mia wants from David and it isn’t his charity or his title. Can he convince her before it’s too late that the love she wants is already hers — to take or to lose forever?
